Authentically Mine

I know you are jealous already. Come on admit it. Come March 26th this will be my new best friend. Her name is Animas. Really that is her name. She is female because I am seriously thinking about getting a pink one. I know I could not sound more ridiculous but why not add some color to my life and be a little girly. Yeah I know I am nuts. I just wish it came in red! Black just seems so drab. Maybe silver. It does matter you know, it will be my "fashion accessory" for at least the next 10-12 months, at least.

What color do you think I should get?

OK now that we got the important stuff out of the way, if you have not been reading my blog you are wondering, "What IS this?" Well my friends it is an insulin pump, and I will be adopting buying one, on March 26th. To help me manage being on insulin while we try to get pregnant this summer, so I have to start now to learn how to use it. Like anything else it really is a piece of technology to learn, the only difference is it will be attached to me 24/7. Yeah there will be some adjusting.

I am trying to take it all in stride. Truth be told I am a little freaked out. I am trying to focus more on the bigger picture of WHY I am getting one (baby) than the "OMG CAN I HANDLE THIS" voice that keeps screaming in my head. I am not sure if it is the wearing one that bothers me as much as the counting of every single thing that I eat so I can then give myself the right amount of insulin. A lot of people do it and I have a fantastic medical support team, and an even better support team of family and friends (two who already have insulin pumps) so I KNOW I can do this.

All of this pre-talk about it before I get it...well it was kind of suggested my my Diabetes Educator to "start getting used to the idea". So thanks for bearing with me...heck if I do get pregnant maybe I will name my baby Animas after the pump!
