Friendships - Thought of the Day

True Friendship

Are you tired of those sissy 'friendship' poems that always sound good, but never actually come close to reality?

Well, here is a series of promises that actually speak of true friendship.

1. When you are sad -- I will help you get drunk and plot revenge against the sorry bastard who made you that way.

2. When you are blue -- I will try to dislodge whatever is choking you.

3. When you smile -- I will know you finally got laid.

4. When you are scared -- I will rag on you about it every chance I get.

5. When you are worried -- I will tell you horrible stories about how much worse it could be until you quit whining.

6. When you are confused -- I will use little words.

7. When you are sick -- Stay the hell away from me until you are well again.  I don't want to catch whatever you have.

8. When you fall -- I will point and laugh at your clumsy ass.

9. This is my oath..... I pledge it to the end.

'Why?' you may ask ?, 'Because you are my friend'.

~ Forwarded to me by my darling cousin. I have no idea who to credit the original with.

So True

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

~ Marianne Williamson

Or as I have heard it put by someone else along the way... "We don't really fear failure but rather we fear what would happen if we let go without abandon and succeeded."

Let me ask you this...

“What would you do if you knew you could not fail?”  ~ Robert Schuler

Our Deepest Fear

I have heard this before many times in my yoga class, usually read by an instructor as I am sweating in a heated room and trying to hold an impossible pose. I read the quote tonight on Marja's blog and was reminded how true it is. If you are not a believer in God don't let that taint the impact of the meaning - just substitue the word God with whatever you want.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves; Who am I to be brillant, gorgeous, talentful, fabulous?

Actually who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small doesn't serve the world.

There's nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presense automatically liberates others.

By Marianne Williamson

Then there is this quote which I have always liked by e.e.cummings:

It takes courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are.

Something else I have heard along that way is that we often fail because we are afraid of succeeding....interesting thought to ponder. What do you think?
